Flight from Europe

I%26#39;ve just started looking into a possibility of going to Buthan in autumn 2009. %26lt;Everything seems just fine, but I%26#39;m a bit worried about getting there. It seems not possible to book a flight with drukair on the net. Can anybody advice me on how to fly cheapest and/or easiest from Europe to Paro?

Also, is it very dangerous? I mean, the landing is by visual rules, it doesn%26#39;t seem to be too safe!?!

Flight from Europe

Hello,

It is true that you cannot book a drukair flight on the web. You have to organise your trip with a local touragent, who will also deal with your flight into Bhutan, and the visa.

You can fly into Bhutan from Bangkok or from Delhi, India.Last time our ticket was already an e-ticket, sent by e-mail, and this should be the case for you too. Check out the days Drukair is flying from and to the destination you choose for your connection as they don%26#39;t have flights every day. Your agent can help you with everything.

The landing is manual/visual by the best pilots in the world. On my first trip I had the fortune to be invited in the cockpit and saw the landing from between the pilots. It was a very great experience, I%26#39;ll never forget.

The other times, just sitting in the seats of economy, it still was very great.You%26#39;ll see the trees, houses and on the left side (from Delhi) the Dzong of Paro just next to your window. One minus of this type of landing, is that it is weather- dependable, and can be delayed by fog and strong winds.

Feel free to ask more questions. Enjoy the preparations, there are good articles about Bhutan on TA.

Your local agent will also arrange your visa. The flights in and out are early in the day and we were told that was to avoid the wind. Our flight last week was certainly without problems.

Just returned from Bhutan. As stated in previous posts you have to organise your flights/visa through a local agent. We flew from Europe via Kathmandu which allowed us to spend some time in Nepal before and after our time in Bhutan.

Bhutan is very different to anywhere else I have been and I really enjoyed my 8 days there. The landing at Paro in Bhutan also was an experrience, yes you are very close to the mountains/hill sides but so far I believe the safety record is good.

You cannot DIY your trip in Bhutan like elsewhere in Asia. Flights, hotels, guides, car must be booked with an authorized agency beforehand (you do need a visa to enter the country and the agency will only sort that out for you if you book the trip with them)

Qatar Air fly from Europe to Kathmandu(KTM),via Doha as does Gulf Air via Bahrain(BAH).

Only Druk Air fly from there to Paro and the Agent that arranges your package arranges those flights.

The landing at Paro is fabulous.

Don%26#39;t have to worry about landing at Bhutan as Druk Air has one of the best pilots!!! The view is really awesome and usually the airport staff will arrange for a window seat for you [left window fr BKK to Paro and right window from Paro to BKK]. I would recommend for you to take from BKK as you would be able to get your preferred seats.

Your travel agent would need to help you with all your travel itinerary and Druk Air will ONLY issue your air ticket once your visa has been approved. Btw, your visa will only be approved when your itinerary and hotel has been confirmed and payment has been received.
