I am planning to visit Bhutan during the the second half of December for 6 to 7 days. Because of limited time, I intend to visit only the popular tourist spots.
Is that time of a year suitable for touring in Bhutan?
Would the road conditions OK during that time?
Is it a good time to go to visit Bhutan during winter time?
Of course winter is the cooler time of the year, but still o.k.if you%26#39;re not going high in the mountains. In the centre, Bumthang, it can be snowing, but usually the roads are open. As you plan for few days, I guess you%26#39;ll be in Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.
Especially in Punakha the climate is milder, as it is lower.
Ask your local guide how the weather can affect the flights into Bhutan, and calculate accordingly extra days before and after your Bhutan-trip.
As always take layers of clothing and rainproof as well,an umbrella too.
Enjoy your trip.

Dear Bhutantraveller,
Reading your advice and suggestions about Bhutan has been great, and very helpful.
Hope you can help with my silly question. As I%26#39;ll be trekking up to Tiger%26#39;s Nest on Christmas morning, are normal sneakers acceptable or do I need hiking shoes?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Every footwear is acceptable, as long as you are comfortable with it. I prefer hiking boots, it is uneven and steep, but if you%26#39;re a good climber, even sandals could be fine. Really, in Bhutan people are very easy and do not judge people%26#39;s outfits. It depends on you only. Have a wonderful trip.
Just to add regarding the Tiger%26#39;s Nest hike - whatever footwear you choose, make sure they have grips of some sort. It was very dry when we did the hike, and coming down was much harder than going up - lots of slipping and sliding on the dusty path.
Thanks, guys! Your quick input is much appreciated. I really can%26#39;t wait for my first trip to the Himalayas, and I know it will be fantastic.
Hey guys, just to add on to Tour Hubby%26#39;s questions, (as I%26#39;m visiting Bhutan in the middle of Dec as well), how cold does it actually go during the daytime?
This is because various websites say different things and the weather charts aren%26#39;t much help.
The weather is very changable even during the day in one spot, can get close to zero also in daytime in Paro and Thimphu, but with the sun can rise a lot. At night below zero.In Punakha the temperatures are milder.
As always the advise is for layered clothing, take gloves and warm hats too.
Enjoy your saty, and we%26#39;d love to hear about your experiences after your return.
