We will go to Bhutan in October, and would appreciate if somebody could tell us how whe should behave concerning tipping of guide, driver , cook , horsemen etc. We normally give roughly 10$ a day to the guide and slightly less to the driver - would this be ok for Bhutan or too much / not enough ?
tipping
It depends how many are the %26#39;we%26#39;.
I advised our group to give $5 per day per person to the guide, and $3 per day per person for the driver. Cook and horsemen, if I remember right, got $2 p.p.p.d. You can ask your guide during the trek what he advises. They also welcome gifts as blankets and clothes (in good condition).
In the hotel and other places your guide takes care of the tips.
Enjoy your trip.
tipping
thanks a lot for your help - our ';group'; only consists in my husband and me - will it be ok to just double the amounts you indicate ?

CHRISTINE
Hi Christine from Tuscany,
I think as an indication this might work out well. I hope that during your trip you%26#39;ll have a good contact with your guide, and you can consider paying sometimes for his/her drinks. Also an idea is to ask fellowtravelers as you%26#39;ll meet them on your way, in lunch-places,shops, internet-cafee, etc.
In general, if you tip, be generous, as a small tip can be insulting.
Thanks again - as you say, we will talk to fellow travellers once in Bhutan and also find out how much people earn and how expensive life is. This will make it easier to decide....10$ which are ok in INdia etc. may be too little in Bhutan......
Yes and hopefully our guide/driver will be good humoured and efficient - on our side we will do our best to have a good relationship - we are easy going and during many holidays have so far only had one guide (in China many years ago) and some drivers we didn%26#39;t appreciate .
Have a nice weekend - Christine
