Travel to Bhutan in December; Reputable travel agencies?

Am planning a trip to Bhutan in December this year. 8 days, flying from Malaysia via Bangkok. Any tips or is it a good idea travelling in December.

What about costs? Can anyone give us some idea. We know travelling to Bhutan is not cheap but how and what can one save on?

There are 3 of us. Does anyone know of any good reputable travel agency? I have been in contact with one Ethometho Tours. Anyone been with them?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The price in Bhutan is gouvernment-fixed, but includes everything except personal costs. If you work directly with a local agent, it will be cheaper than when you have another hand in between. For 3 and more, you have the regular price, for less there is a surcharge per day.

December might be a bit cold especially in the mountains, and the centre ( Bhumthang) of the country. It all depends what you%26#39;d like to do and see. We have been twice and will be again this April, with Sonam of Nirvanaexpeditions. I cannot praise him enough for special extra%26#39;s and surprises, handling a very diverse tour, lots of information on all aspects of Bhutan%26#39;s life and history. You can ask for an itinary according to your wishes:

Enjoy Bhutan, it is very special, M.

Bhutan is good really almost any time of the year. December can be a bit cold but you will not see very many tourists!

I have traveled with Village Tours and Treks, a local agency in Bhutan. Contact them at www.villagetoursandtreks.com The web site has a lot of information about the different activities you can do within Bhutan.

Thanks for the info. Should get me on my way. Will most accomodation be heated or is this something that I have to pay extra attention to? Also, what does ';standard'; accomodation here mean?

Is it usual to have to pay more if you want a 4X4 SUV for your vehicle?

Hi there

We went to Bhutan late December, early January this year. It was a fine time to go - weather was actually quite warm during the day (because the sun shines a lot at this time of year, and there are hardly any clouds) and was very cold in the evening - which was actually a relief as we live in Bangkok. It meant most days were very clear for sightseeing.

We used a fantastic company called Bhutan Scenic Tours www.bhutanscenictours.com and we really can%26#39;t praise them enough. The arrangements beforehand via e-mail were spot on and hassle free - and our guide and driver (which we are really not used to having while travelling - as we prefer to do our own thing) were easy going, easy chatting to and just fantastic. Now, we%26#39;re thinking about future trips and thinking about when we should have a driver and guide because they can be priceless if you get the right one.

Its a fantastic country and we read about all the recent changes with interest, affection and hope that in the future they can manage to retain what is so very special for such a small, unknown country.

Standard accomodation means a simple room. The rooms typically have twin beds and your own bathroom. The rooms are generally spacious. The showers can be a bit challenging in regards to water pressure and heat. In areas requiring heat at night, they typically have radiated heat or a wood stove.

Thanks again folks. Have really started planning now and communicating with agencies. Coincidently there is also a fantastic article on Bhutan in the March edition of National Geographic which I received yesterday. Got to be there.

We just got back from Bhutan on monday, The information on this page was much useful .

you have to be there ! Its magical . I will upload the pics on my blog as soon as its sorted, tons of pit , every moment is a photo op.

We travelled with bhutan scenic tours .they were the perfect hosts . Dont miss the tigers nest hike. Its simply breathtaking .

until then ; happy travelling %26amp; godspeed
