I am an intrepid traveler interested in doing some trekking in Bhutan, but I%26#39;d also like to experience a festival there as well. I understand that both experiences are one of a kind. I can go for roughly 2 weeks in the fall of 2008. Has anyone out there done this combination before and/ or can someone recommend a tour group / guide service? I understand that independent travel there is next to impossible. I%26#39;m also interested in finding travel partners if anyone else has any interest, let me know...
Trekking and festivals in Bhutan - fall 2008
We used the travel agency Dragon Quest which does trekking trips and other trips.
We did a 4 day trekking I talk about in my posting ';trekking in Bhutan'; on my blog http://myadventureinchina.blogspot.com
Our guide was truly wonderful. October is the right time to do this trip!
You can contact Yeshey Dorji at:
proteustours@druknet.bt
(he has also a website http://www.bhutanbirdquest.com)
You could tell him that Christine and Ed gave you his name.
Yes, it is our understanding as well that independent travel is not possible.

i would suggest you to type www.tourism.gov.bt where you will find list of all the tour operator%26#39;s who provide the services as you like. then choose one and get in touch with them. they are trustful local company with good services.
hi
who has given you wrong information. it is possible to visit Bhutan independently, yes it is true when you are in Bhutan you have to be with the guide. you dont have to look for friend to visit Bhutan. fly to Bangkok or Delhi, Kolkata, Kathmandu and fly to Bhutan. get in touch with local Bhutanese travel company who will arrange all the services as per your advice.
Hey marc- I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;re well intentioned, but is there any need to reply to an 8-month old post? Twice?
And the answer is wrong, as you cannot get onto a flight to Bhutan except when you have a visa, which in turn is organised by your local agent, after showing your prepaid and pre-organised tour. This tour can be for one or more persons, but you cannot travel alone to Bhutan.
you can contact different operators and find out if they can out you together with others to form a group.
