food was BETTER than expected. My husband gained at least ten pounds!
We didn%26#39;t eat at many hotel buffets (other than breakfast). We were usually the only clients at the hotels (hello global economic meltdown) so we were served non-buffet. We usually had between 7-10 dishes of food on the table! Always rice, sometimes noodles, 1-2 meat dishes, naan a few times, and at least 3 vegetable dishes.
Great (Indian) food at Pala restaurant in Thimpu. It is located upstairs in Norling Centre. We ate there once each day in Thimpu.
Great food at Swiss Guest House in Bumthang.
Great food at Kuenga Hotal in Punakha.
Great food at Sonam%26#39;s Trophel in Paro. We ate there 3 times.
Great food at Soebchey restaurant in Paro.
Great food at Gongkhar Guest House in Bumthang---buffet, but great.
Even the hotel buffets weren%26#39;t bad. We only had 2 dinners that we weren%26#39;t thrilled with. One was at hotel Meripuensum and the other at a restaurant in Paro called Chorro and Doro.
Our guide was a gem at finding all this great food!
Ema datse was very good!
Trip report---food
Thanks for sharing the information. I always prefer to dine at the restaurants that are less popular among tourists and more popular among the locals. It gives me more opportunity to understand local eating culture, taste and preparation styles. Sometimes, I try to prepare those dishes even after coming back.
