Where should we go...?

I am planning to Bhutan for a few days. I do not know where to visit. Could you give me some information, please? How much is it for a tour guide per day and taxi?

Where should we go...?

Let me know right now! Help help!

Where should we go...?

As Bhutan can only be visited on a pre-organised and pre-paid tour, you%26#39;d better start with looking for a touroperator, who then can and will arrange all the places you%26#39;d visit, your flights to and from Bhutan-either from Delhi or Bangkok-inclusive guide, driver, hotels and meals.

Now, you can ask that operator whatever you want to see and do, sightseeing and/or trekking. Depending on the number of days available, you usually start in Paro, and can stay there, seeing the Museum, the Kyichu Temple, hike to Taktsang Monastry, drive to Drukgyel Dzong in the valley-end, and do some trekking, one day or more.

Thimphu, the capital, is 1,5 hour drive from Paro, and has a lot to see, depending on your interests.

For more time, try to drive (with your driver and guide) to Punakha with the most beautiful Dzong, where the coronation of the King is going to take place in another two weeks.

Still more days can bring you to the centre of the country, to Bumthang, with a lot of walking options, and visiting the most sacred places and Temples.

You can have a look at the inside pages here on TA,and on the site of my favorite operator, Nirvanaexpeditions, which has descriptions of the most visited places.

If you wish, you can tell me what your interests are, how fit and what you%26#39;d like to do. By the way, it is also possible to do kayaking, mountain-biking and a combination of all.

Depending on the season you plan your visit, you%26#39;d plan early, as the places on the planes into Bhutan are limited.

And to answer your other question, you%26#39;re looking at $200 - $240 US/day, per person. Plus visa. Plus airfare from the airport of your and Druk Air%26#39;s mutual agreement (BKK, DEL, KTM, etc.)

This price is per person per night-halt, and includes everything, from guide and driver, to hotel and three meals, entrance-fees. On treks, it includes tents, horses for carrying your luggage, cooks and all meals too. Not included are your personal expenses like drinks, phone, internet, souvenir-shopping, and tips at the end.

From 4 people and more the price is, as said, 200$ p.p., for less a surcharge till 40$ per night (for a single person).

This is for dealing straight with a local tour-operator. When working with someone abroad, the price can be much more, and it is easily done by mail with a local.

That sounds good! Thank you so much.

BhutanTraveller,

Do I understand correctly...there is a $40 daily surcharge for a person travelling alone, not with a group?

Yes, that%26#39;s correct. For a single person there is a surcharge of 40$ per night halt, covering a single room too. For two persons 30$ extra per person, you%26#39;ll have a driver and a guide only for you.

This was the reason I started the first time to get more people together, also nicer to have a few others, and better for the price.

there are a few companies who have fixed departures, but I%26#39;d advise to plan your own itinary and try to get a few friends together. All this information you should also get from your touroperator. For more than 10 night there is a discount too.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

I don%26#39;t think $40/day is that big of a deal, so I%26#39;ll probably go it alone (with my tour guide).

Thanks for your help! We had a great trip and we enjoyed so much. We will go back again.
